Dennis and Gnasher - From Script to Screen
Dennis and Gnasher - The Journey from Script to Screen Continues.
In the previous part we looked at how an idea becomes an outline.

Once the writer has created this, it goes to the producers for their comments - usually something like, "Go away, I'm busy counting all this lovely, green, crinkly money."

Dad's boss counting cash behind a desk loaded with more money.
One of the producers - counting - ahem - scripts, before having them taken to a special, highly secure script vault - apparently.
(NOTE FROM THE PRODUCERS - AGAIN: We producers do a lot more than count money, you know.

We... er... well, we... um... we kind of... erm... Well, we're busy doing whatever it is we do, okay! And all those bits of foldy paper on our desks are scripts, honestly!)

After the producers make their suggestions, the writer moves onto the script.

All the details get put in now - where things actually happen, who will appear and what they'll be doing, and all the things they're going to say!

Sometimes the producers and the writers make three or four lots of changes, usually to add more and better money - I mean jokes, before the final draft is ready.

This is the version they use to make the episode. Here's a page of a script from a final draft - just click for a bigger version!

A Dennis and Gnasher script page

In part three, we'll explain what all the numbers and CAPITAL LETTERS mean!
