A few weeks ago we asked you to vote between Lord Snooty (the original), General Jumbo and The Nibblers. His Lordship won the vote and we’ve shown you a General Jumbo since then but The Nibblers haven’t been forgotten.
We’ll be showing you a couple of pages of classic Nibblers soon.
However, if you really can’t wait for some classic comic pages, the new Classics From The Comics (issue 167) is now on sale and has a Nibblers story in it, along with over 40 other classic comic characters including Dennis the Menace, Minnie the Minx, The Bash Street Kids, Desperate Dan and a whole lot more. There’s even a section devoted to the pages drawn over the years by current Roger the Dodger artist, Barrie Appleby. 68 pages crammed full of fantastic comic fun, all for just £2.00.

The British and American characters named Dennis the Menace launched in the SAME WEEK in March 1951. Neither DC Thomson nor the publishers of the American Dennis knew about the other until it was too late, and now each has the trademark to the name in their home countries, but has to change it elsewhere. That’s why the 1996 Dennis the Menace cartoon changed it’s name to Dennis and Gnasher for it’s second series in 1998, so it could be sold abroad without confsion with the American character. That’s also why the 1986 American series was simply called “Dennis” here. The American character also had a live action TV show in the 50s.
