In this month's BeanoMAX, Derek the Sheep and his crazy pals set up a burger stall with a huge donut sign... only to find that his nemesis, Big Baz, has set up a rival van with an even bigger donut sign! This battle of the burger vans turns dirty with hilarious results, but the original storyline was a whole lot dirtier...
The burger van wars begin...
Derek artist Gary Northfield's original story idea went:
"Derek, Lenny, Cecil and Nobby are running a very successful Burger van. Their turnip burgers are all the rage and they're on their way to buying those tickets to see Girls Aloud that they've always dreamed of. Soon though, it becomes obvious that no one is buying their burgers anymore and everyone is walking round with strange huge burgers saying how they're half the price of Derek's burgers and much tastier.
It turns out that Big Baz has set up a rival van selling his "special" burgers, so the boys send a covert team to figure out how they're made so they can steal the recipe. Unfortunately it turns out that Baz is using dried up cowpats as burgers. When the cows find out that their fine pats are being sold for hard cash a riot ensues. The end bit somehow has the gang at the Girls Aloud gig stinking of cowpats but very happy."
Donut-sign envy is a terrible thing...
While we always like to take our storylines a little bit further on BeanoMAX, the idea of Derek and his pals eating cowpats was a little too... eugh!
Storylines always go through this constant revision, change and rewrite to make them as good as they can be, and this month's Derek strip was no exception - as you can see!
